Google Clarifies JSON-LD, Microdata & RDFa Are All Supported For Structured Information


Google has clarified in its search developer paperwork that JSON-LD, Microdata and RDFa are all absolutely supported types for structured information and Google Search. Google wrote, “all three supported codecs are equally effective for Google, so long as they’re legitimate and applied correctly per the function’s documentation.”

The new paragraph within the documentation now reads:

Google Search helps structured information within the following codecs, until documented in any other case. Usually, we suggest utilizing a format that is best so that you can implement and preserve (most often, that is JSON-LD); all 3 codecs are equally effective for Google, so long as the markup is legitimate and correctly applied per the function’s documentation.

This was up to date as a result of Google’s Ryan Levering noticed the embedded tweet beneath, that reveals there’s confusion on which Google might or might not choose. Ryan stated, “We would have to tweak the wording for Google’s predominant structured information web page.”

He stated that Google “primarily suggest JSON-LD as a result of websites screw up Microdata much more than they do JSON-LD as a result of it is embedded. We do not have some secret plans to take away help for Microdata. Notably for schema that’s both very annotation/textual content heavy or quite simple (so that you needn’t do meta tag gymnastics), Microdata could make extra sense.”
